Politics of Fiscal Responsibility

The challenges we have set for ourselves at Northwest Free Press are enormous. Economic prosperity and fiscal responsibility so easy to say, so difficult to achieve. The numbers are daunting. A federal debt well in excess of $14 trillion. A current year deficit of over $1.3 trillion, even with the promised $38 billion cut that averted a government shutdown over the weekend.
But the politics of achieving the fiscal responsibility necessary to long term economic prosperity are even more daunting. The magnitude of the challenge is made painfully clear by Robert Samuelson in today’s Washington Post. We in America have created suicidal government, writes Samuelson.
